Frequently asked questions

Does my old mailbox stay intact?

Yes. We copy your messages — we never move or delete anything on the source. Your old mailbox stays fully usable.

How long does a migration take?

It depends on the size. Small mailboxes finish in minutes; large ones in a few hours. You don't have to wait: it runs on our servers. Gmail has a daily cap set by Google (about 2.5 GB per day): large Gmail migrations therefore run across several days — automatically.

Is it safe to enter my password?

Your passwords are stored encrypted until the migration finishes and wiped immediately after. The content of your email is never stored. Everything runs on EU servers.

Does it work with Gmail or Microsoft 365?

Gmail: yes, via an app password. Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com: not at the moment — Microsoft has switched off password sign-in; we are building a connection that signs you in directly with your Microsoft account. For your own mail servers your regular mailbox password works.

Do I need to change my MX records?

Only if you're also moving your domain. The email migration itself doesn't touch your DNS; you change MX records at your new provider when you're ready to switch over.

What if the migration fails?

We retry automatically. If it partly succeeds, we refund the unmoved part as credit and you continue with one click — only what's still missing.

Can my AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) handle the migration for me?

Yes. emailmover ships an MCP interface (Model Context Protocol): mint an AI access token in the app and your assistant can start the free measurement, follow progress and kick off the migration — on behalf of your account. Paying always happens yourself in the browser, and the token can never access your mail content.

What do I get for inviting a friend?

Share your personal invite link (on your dashboard). When your friend pays for their first move, you receive half of those GBs for free — up to 5 GB.
